Job Description: Trial Consultant
Position Overview:
The Trial Consultant, within the Law and Criminal Justice department, plays a crucial role in assisting attorneys and legal teams in trial preparation and strategy development. This position requires a strong understanding of the legal system, exceptional research and analytical skills, and the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to various stakeholders. The Trial Consultant must possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough research on case-specific legal issues, including statutes, regulations, case law, and legal precedents
- Analyze and evaluate evidence, witness statements, and other relevant materials to identify strengths and weaknesses in the case
- Collaborate with attorneys to develop case strategies, including witness preparation, theme development, and courtroom presentation tactics
- Assist in the creation and organization of trial exhibits, demonstrative aids, and visual presentations
- Conduct mock trials and focus groups to gather feedback and evaluate potential case strategies
- Provide guidance to legal teams on jury selection, including developing profiles and conducting jury research
- Assist in the preparation of witnesses, including conducting interviews, preparing testimony outlines, and providing guidance on courtroom demeanor
- Attend trials and provide real-time support to attorneys, including assisting with objections, witness examination, and evidence presentation
- Stay updated on current legal trends, developments, and best practices within the field of trial consulting
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all aspects of the job
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Criminal Justice, or a related field (a combination of education and relevant experience may be considered)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a paralegal or in a similar role within the legal field
- In-depth knowledge of the legal system, trial procedures, and courtroom etiquette
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and synthesize complex information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations effectively to diverse audiences
- Proficient in the use of legal research databases and other relevant software applications
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all work
- Ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality
- Familiarity with jury psychology and the ability to analyze and interpret juror behavior is preferred, but not required
